10 Steps to Build a Strong Personal Brand

Make Your Passion Your Paycheck

Attention All Creatives and Entrepreneurs

We live in a time where your personal brand is very influential in how others perceive you and your online persona. That’s why we must keep as much control over it as possible so that we can represent ourselves authentically and with purpose. This is very important, especially if you are a creator or an entrepreneur. I’ve been trying to establish a strong personal brand that fully represents me as an individual. Throughout researching this topic thoroughly, I’ve learned and condensed the valuable information into a quick read for you!

Establish Your Purpose.

To help you with this, answer these questions in a journal and identify common themes.

  • What are your interests?
  • What is your personality like?
  • What do you love learning about?
  • What could you talk about for days?

If you’re having trouble with this, turn to your friends and family and ask them what type of advice do they seek from you. What are three words that pop into their mind when they think of you?
Use this is a base start in establishing your purpose.

Have a Homebase
Find the right platform to house your brand; for me, it’s my website.
I recommend a home base that can’t be taken away from you. Instagram could one day vanish just how vine did. Having your own website to store your content is a great way to ensure that your brand will be around for years to come.

Establish a Brand Identity.
Your brand must tell your personal story, authentically. Having a unique brand will help you set yourself apart from others. People should be able to identify if a post is from you by its presentation. Remember, you’re telling your story through your brand, so pick colors, a name, and a logo that best represents YOU.

Write Down Your Core Values
Start by answering what do you want to offer your audience? Value? Relatability? Results? Then pick three words you want your audience to feel from your brand and work towards highlighting areas of your story that will evoke those feelings.

Be Consistent in Both Content and Posting.
Don’t let your audience forget about you. Post consistently and make sure that you are consistent in the way you present yourself online, and graphically.

Quality VS. Quantity
At first, you’re going to start with a few followers and some content. Make sure that your content is of value and don’t worry about the number of followers. It’s better to have a few loyal supporters than having lots of followers that don’t interact with your content.

Take Action
Don’t just fake it till you make it. Put in the work, be respectful and professional. This is your brand, your reputation. Respect it how you want others to respect it.

Know Your Audience
Knowing your audience is the key to success! It will help you figure out what to post more off, what products to create, and what type of value you can offer them.

Find Your Niche
Look at what content your audience responds to well. Ask your audience what they want more of, but make sure you’re knowledgeable on the topics you post.

Be Yourself
I know this one sounds cheesy, but showing your personality, being authentic, and sharing your core values will make you stand out. These are things that will set you apart from everyone else trying to do the same thing.

You are unique! No one has lived the life you have. You have so much knowledge to offer others.
